Giggles Early Learning is our equal regional winner in Tasmania. This family owned and run service in Smithton achieved a KindiCare Rating of 9.4, and Giggles brings great education and care to the north west corner of the Apple Isle.

This service has been rated Exceeding by ACECQA since it opened back in 2009; and its co-owner, Linda Wooldrage, says, “From the beginning, we aspired to provide our families with a homely and stimulating environment.” Linda says, “At Giggles, we don’t have a big budget or fancy applications or programs, and we don’t have lots of staff. In fact, I am the Approved Provider, Director, Early Childhood Teacher, and Educational Leader! However, what we do have at our service are enthusiastic, devoted educators who are committed to continual improvement and embedded critical reflection.” Linda works alongside her educators, mentoring them and reflecting on best practice education and care, and there’s a wonderful culture of collaboration at Giggles. Families are supported to be involved in their child's time at the service each and every day, and Linda says, “Families share with us how appreciative they are of the 'over and above' documentation of their child's time at the service.” “Our service re-arranges the resources at least weekly, responding to the children in our care.” “Families are also appreciative of the partnership we have with our local community and, in particular, the local Aboriginal community.” Another great thing about Giggles is its family grouping approach. All ages learn, play and grow together, and Linda says, “This supports the younger children to develop at a faster rate, as they are involved in experiences beyond their years. Siblings are able to interact with each other throughout the day, and older siblings can attend our service when not at school, which supports the family structure.” The children enjoy a rich curriculum, and educators follow their interests and strengths, giving them the freedom to lead their learning, explore, experiment, take risks, and offer ideas. Giggles has a huge backyard which puts little learners in touch with the natural world, and there’s a great focus on healthy eating and active play in the daily program. Children gain confidence and feel a real sense of belonging at this service, and everyone in this childcare family feels part of something positive. Linda says, ‘We strive for excellence in every aspect of our service,” and this year’s KindiCare Excellence Award is a great validation of their efforts.
